Welcome to our town
Sturminster Newton, twinned with Montebourg, is a North Dorset Market Town, lying in the heart of the beautiful Blackmore Vale. It is within easy reach of Blandford Forum, Shaftesbury, Sherborne, Poole and Bournemouth. This rich agricultural area led Thomas Hardy to call it “The Vale of a Hundred Dairies” and today agriculture is still a very important activity.

The River Stour
Flowing around the town, the Stour rises at Stourhead and reaches the sea at Christchurch. The coarse fishing is among the best in England.

Anyone damaging the medieval six-arched bridge over the Stour at the southern end of town in the 19th century would have been transported to Australia as a felon, states the plaque affixed to the bridge.

Sturminster Mill and Musuem
Some 200 yards from the bridge is a picturesque and ancient working water mill which is open on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Thursday every week from Easter to September when conducted tours operate. Twice during the season the Mill is fully operational, winnowing and milling wheat.

The Exchange
The Exchange is a new multi purpose building offering a high degree of flexibility for a wide range of uses. It is a community centre, an arts centre and a learning centre.

Community.com
unity.com is a monthly magazine produced for Sturminster and the surrounding villages. Delivered free to all local households in the area.

Please note that this is a temporary page – new site coming soon…
